Emperor Wu of the Liang Dynasty
Years of Rule: 48
Emperor Wu of the Liang Dynasty is known as being the first "Monk Emperor". His religion of Buddhism was extremely important to him and he left his palace many times to study his faith and become a monk. One very unique thing he had done as Emperor was to have a suggestion box and a criticism box placed outside the palace gate. According to many, Emperor Wu was a smart and tactful man with many talents. In the words of Chinese historian Sima Guang, Emperor Wu was "erudite and good at writing and literature, Yin Yang, divination, riding and archery, rhythm of writing, calligraphy of Cao (a fully cursive style) and Li (Clerical Script), and Go [an ancient board game]." He was known as a person who was especially skilled in the areas of literature and war tactics. Emperor Wu was certainly a one of a kind Emperor.
